Module 5

A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?

1. An artwork that made an impression on me was an oil painting of a car on a highway on a rainy day. This painting was by A.J. Fries. It's called "Route 33" and it's from 2012.  This had an impression on me because of the color used. He only used dark colors. The way he made the ripples of water on the side and gave the painting texture  really made it stand out. 

2. Another artwork that had an impression on me was another oil painting. This time it was of a flower. The painting is called "Blue Weed." It's from 2010 and it is by Joan Linder. I love flowers so this painting caught my eye immediately. It was something that is slightly abstract due to the color but very real looking. 

B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?

1. The first artwork that I felt connected with was Shirley Kassebaum's piece called "Invisible/Divisible" This artwork was from 1986. I connected with this piece because of the way she portrayed the painting. Sometime's people can't see themselves as who they are. We sometimes see ourselves as invisible and well, divisible. 

2. The second painting I connected with was Gary Le Wolfe painting called "Ensemble" From 2015. I connected with this piece because it reminded me of myself with my friends. Everyone around, all joyful and playing/listing to beautiful music. It's like there's no reason to have worries. It was a very free piece.  

C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why? 

1. One of the artworks I'd like to know more about is the painting called "Blue Weed." It is such a simple piece but I'd like to know why the artist decided to choose a weed to paint and why to paint it blue. 

2. The other artwork I'd like to know more about is the abstract painting by William Y. Cooper. The painting is from 1994 and it is called "Ghana." It's a beautiful piece with many, many colors but I want to know what was going through the artist mind when it was being created.

    I was impressed with the pieces of art that you did your project on, not because it was different from mine , but to me i feel like it give a little insight about a person and from what I saw in the slideshow, i can make a guess that you a calm and cool abstract person.

    The art you chose was very different from mine so I really enjoyed looking more in depth into these pieces. I love the "Ensemble" piece as well because it also reminds me of going to shows with my friends. You can almost hear the music in the painting. Also, I love the movement in Cooper's painting "Ghana". The vivid colors, and playful lines create a busy feel in the painting.

Module 15 - Guernica

1- Taking my first glance at The Guernica, it was really hard to understand what was even happening. This oil painting is considered to be a moral with many different tortuous images created in it.  There's many elements and principals tat were brought to this piece such as; line, shape, form, value, and movement.  Looking at this picture my eyes dart from one place to another. there is no one thing that draws the attention. 2- The Guernica was made in 1937 by Picasso. This piece was created around the Civil War time period which makes sense because it seems as if the painting was a testimony of war. 3-  The painting was create in a time filled with war, death, and a lot of chaos. Picasso uses symbolism to express this time period. The painting is crazy, it's filled with shapes and forms which make the people and animals. Module 8

More Human than Human  I enjoyed this video and found it very interesting. This video shows how art from our past effects the world as we know it today. He seemed to really focus on art throughout many years. My favorite quote from this video was "We will see how us humans made art but also how art made us humans."  I also enjoyed when he started to converse about the way we view each other and how the brain effects the way we view ourselves.  He also said that the way we see art is not realistic, and mentioned that art we see of human bodies doesn't look the way we think it should/would.
