Module 6

Through the Eyes of a Sculptor:

I find sculpting is a very beautiful thing. Sculptor are when artist is able to create art through using things like clay, plaster, and marble. The video shows an art studio of Emmanuel Fillion, and the video shows him making a life sized marble sculpture. Fillion identifies himself as a restoration artist.  When his artwork is viewed people see it as inspirational and beautiful.  I was very impressed with his work that replicated sculptors of women. He really knew how to mature the beauty of women, like bringing their beauty to life through art.  Sculptors are very, very delicate and expensive so, people who are around them need to be extremely careful in transporting them.  Avoiding breakage is difficult so to do it the artist created bridges between delicate pieces that will stay attached during the process.  When the sculptor is placed in the area it needs to be, the artist will then finish the artwork, he or she will remove the bridges and finish off the details.
Chapter 11 was all about sculptures and installation. There were several sculpting methods brought to my attention from the book and the video. The video gave more of a visual sense of how everything was really done.  I found it more challenging to read the information that was given to me.

Class and Ceramics

Glass and ceramic is also very pretty.  The work that is created is very unique and different from other artwork you see.  The video shows how both glass and ceramics were developed and how they are moved into industrial production.  They also show what materials are used and how to create them.  The video brought up the use of glass in architecture and how it's commonly being used in some places with wood or stone. I learned that raw materials like clay are involved in creating conventional ceramics. In chapter 12 we learn about the arts of ritual and daily life which ends up including ceramics and glass.  The book did a nice job of explaining the information to me on how this type of art is created.  I loved the video because I got to watch it be created. It was pretty soothing to watch.
