Chapter 11

Expressionism-

This is a type of artistic style where artist seek the subjective emotions and responses that certain objects and different events bring out in a person.  Artist normally create this type of art through distortion, exaggeration, and fantasy.  Expressionism started to become more noticeable in the 19th century.  This was because this type of art allowed a lot of people to express themselves in ways they couldn't before.

I chose this video because I have heard about expressionism before and actually had an Idea of the concept.  I thought the video was dry but I learned some cool stuff that I didn't know before.


The Impact of Cubism-
 Cubism is a revolutionary type of modern art that was developed by Picasso and Braques. This was the first type of abstract art to exist. This art created responses that changed the world.  This type of art was created with the intentions to bring back some Western art traditions. Cubist were able to challenge the traditional forms of representation and bring about new ways of perceiving art.

I selected this video because I have never heard of this and I was very interested in it. It was interesting and definitely more lively than the other video I watched. I had no trouble understanding it and really had my full attention on it the whole time.

Module 15 - Guernica

1- Taking my first glance at The Guernica, it was really hard to understand what was even happening. This oil painting is considered to be a moral with many different tortuous images created in it.  There's many elements and principals tat were brought to this piece such as; line, shape, form, value, and movement.  Looking at this picture my eyes dart from one place to another. there is no one thing that draws the attention. 2- The Guernica was made in 1937 by Picasso. This piece was created around the Civil War time period which makes sense because it seems as if the painting was a testimony of war. 3-  The painting was create in a time filled with war, death, and a lot of chaos. Picasso uses symbolism to express this time period. The painting is crazy, it's filled with shapes and forms which make the people and animals. Module 8

More Human than Human  I enjoyed this video and found it very interesting. This video shows how art from our past effects the world as we know it today. He seemed to really focus on art throughout many years. My favorite quote from this video was "We will see how us humans made art but also how art made us humans."  I also enjoyed when he started to converse about the way we view each other and how the brain effects the way we view ourselves.  He also said that the way we see art is not realistic, and mentioned that art we see of human bodies doesn't look the way we think it should/would.
